What Marvis is
Marvis is a personal AI assistant client from Tencent that you install on a computer and a phone. The design is built around edge and cloud working together, and the feature that gets the most attention is Privacy Mode. In that mode a large model runs locally, so documents, spreadsheets, and images can be processed with no file uploads at all. There is also an Efficiency Mode that combines cloud compute with local models for faster responses on everyday, non-sensitive tasks. Beyond chat, the client can search and organize local files, images, and text inside images, answer questions about your PC configuration, and change system settings from a single sentence. It is currently free to download and try.
What you can do with it
- Run a local model so sensitive files stay on your machine.
- Use cloud plus local mode for faster everyday answers.
- Bind your phone to your PC and view or take over tasks remotely.
- Search and sort local files, images, and text inside images in natural language.
- Ask about your hardware or change a system setting in one sentence.
Who it is for
- Legal, finance, and HR staff who work with confidential files.
- People who want to reach a work or home computer from a phone.
- Users with large photo libraries who want automatic sorting.
What to watch out for
This is a client you install, not a web page, so it needs disk space, setup time, and an initial indexing pass over your files. Local model speed depends heavily on your hardware, and a weaker machine will feel slow. Remote control requires the same account on both devices plus a stable network, so it is not a substitute for being at the machine when you need heavy work done. The product is in a free trial phase, so what is free today may not be free later. Any assistant that can read your files and change system settings deserves a careful look at permissions before you hand over broad access.
